"The Salt Path," penned by Raynor Winn, takes readers on an extraordinary journey of resilience, hope, and self-discovery. Based on a true story, the book follows the life of Raynor and her husband Moth as they embark on a 630-mile trek along the South West Coast Path in England. Faced with personal challenges and homelessness, the couple finds solace in the healing power of nature and the breathtaking landscapes that surround them. It is a story that touches hearts, highlighting the indomitable spirit of the human soul and the transformative power of wild camping.

Gillian Anderson, a celebrated and versatile actress, breathes life into the character of Raynor in "The Salt Path." With his commanding presence and magnetic acting prowess, Isaacs is poised to deliver a nuanced and powerful portrayal of Moth, making his bond with Raynor even more captivating on screen.

So what part did I play? As the “wild camping specialist”, my role in the production of "The Salt Path" was to ensure the authenticity and realism of the camping sequences.

While the production crew had carefully selected gear that closely aligned with the items mentioned in the book, my expertise came into play when providing guidance on how to effectively utilise the and capture the essence of wild camping. From advising on the best techniques for packing bags to demonstrating proper tent pitching and taking down methods, I worked closely with Gillian, Jason, and the crew to ensure a seamless integration of practical camping skills into the film.

"The Salt Path" is more than just a story of camping; it is a tale of human resilience, love, and finding solace in the natural world. By sharing my knowledge of wilderness survival, camp organisation, and practical camping skills, I guided Gillian and Jason, allowing them to embody their characters' wild camping experiences with depth and authenticity.

Through meticulous attention to detail and a genuine passion for the wild, I hope I played a key role in infusing the camping sequences with a sense of wonder, adventure, and emotional resonance.

The production team selected all the equipment, with their aim to closely align these items with the descriptions in the book, ensuring an impeccable match. They placed great emphasis on meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that the chosen gear not only met the practical needs of the characters' journey but also enhanced the visual and sensory experience of the film. Every decision, whether it involved researching historically accurate camping gear or consulting with outdoor experts, was approached with utmost care and precision, which I found to be fascinating.

Beyond the gear selection, I helped guiding Gillian and Jason through the nuances of wild camping. I shared practical advise acquired through years of outdoor experience, teaching them how to pack their bags efficiently, pitch and take down tents effortlessly, and cook using the camping stove (to cook noodles). All a bit of a surreal experience.

As the technical and wild camping specialist on site my role extended far beyond the selection of gear and the teaching of practical skills. I became a fundamental part of the collaborative process, working alongside Gillian, Jason and the production team in the creative process. This is something I will never forget and I am grateful for opportunity and trust that was given to me.

I’ll look forward to seeing “The Salt Path” when it’s released.
