MY FAVOURITE LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHERS
This is going to be a longer blog than usual, as this blog is going to be about my favourite photographers. These photographers all have their own little traits and trends as to why I really like them and their work. Most importantly, I’m going to talk about why they inspire me.
Jimmy Chin
Jimmy Chin is an American professional climber, photographer, and Academy Award winning film director. You may recognise him from his work on films like Free Solo and Meru. Jimmy was part of a team that first summited Meru and its famous “sharks Fin”.
His landscape photography has been featured in numerous publications, including National Geographic, Outside, and Men's Journal.
Jimmy not only talks the talk, but he certainly does walk the walk, being one of the best mountaineers the planet has ever seen.
A link to Jimmys Instagram page is below, along with a video on him and his career:

Nick Page
What can I say about Nick Page? Well, the guy is a total legend and is completely in love with photography and doing things right. I remember watching his first YouTube video and I was immediately hooked by his enthusiasm.
Nick is all about mood and really bringing that out in his Landscape Photography. It also helps that he is a genuine as it comes. Before Covid took its hold, I signed up to his tutorial series on editing and I think I watched the whole lot within a day. I was HOOKED by his teaching methods. If you would like to learn more on editing, then I highly recommend purchasing his online classes.
Nick over the past few days has released a new YouTube video called “The Oncoming Storm” which you can watch below. This video totally sums Nick up for me. To round off, in my opinion Nick is one of the best landscape photographers in the world, and someone you simply have to follow if landscape photography is your genre of choice.

Nigel Danson
Nigel Danson is a northern (we won’t hold that against him) based landscape photographer and YouTuber. I discovered Nigels channel a few years go and was instantly hooked by the way he teaches. My admiration for Nigel grew even further when I learn’t his back story, which I hope he wouldn’t mind me sharing. Nigel was obsessed with photography from the age of 11, so its always been in his blood, but after a serious accident in 2016 where his heart actually stopped on more than one occasion, Nigel left a successful software business that he founded and decided to follow his number one love, photography. I have nothing but pure admiration and respect for this move. I think we can all relate to a feeling like this with our 9-5 jobs, but Nigel has grabbed the bull by the horns and made the gamble work and extremely successfully.
Aside from the above, obviously Nigel also is an incredible photographer. I am in love with his natural style and editing. Everything is edited to make you feel as if you were there, in the moment. His work from Iceland and the Faroe Islands being my personal favourite. I recently purchased Nigel’s book “Vistas” which is full of incredible landscape photography. I’ve spent many hours in front of the fire, coffee in hand admiring his work. Pure bliss.

Thomas Heaton
Thomas Heaton, do I need to really write anything about him? Really? I think, along with anyone else on this list, we all know about him! So, why feel the need to add him to yet another list? Well, he is still at the top of his game and he gave me what I love doing today, photography.
I’ve always had a fascination for photography, but I never picked up a camera really, but after seeing one of Thomas’s videos about a wild camp on Place Fell in the Lake District, Thomas was the one that pushed that passion over the edge. So, thanks Thomas, thanks for the empty bank balance. What I love about Tom is, he takes you on that journey. It feels like you’re on locations with him. Its also been great to feel as though I’ve grown with him through his YouTube and landscape photography journey (without the followers).
Landscape photography has really taken Thomas around the world, so have a look at his imagines as they’re “absolutely stunning” to coin his catch phrase.
I’m not going to share one of Thomas’s new videos, I’m going to share the one that really inspired me to get out into the wild.

Gavin Hardcastle aka Fototripper
Gavin Hardcastle is Canadian based, British, landscape photographer. Some would say he is also a comedian, but in a good way. I adore Gavins tongue in cheek approach to his YouTube channel, which is refreshing amougnst the sea of standard tutorials. I’ve found myself spitting out my tea on many occasions during his tutorials.
On the total flip side, although Gavin takes a comedic approach to his YouTube channel, his photography is absolutely serious. Beautiful infact. You just have to look at his portfolio on his website to see what an absolute talent he is. One of the best.
I believe Gavin was one of the main instigators of the F4 Road Trip, which is a “Top Gear” style tutorial involving himself, Nick Page, Thomas Heaton and Adam Gibbs. The ultimate combo for me as you can see from this blog!!!

Erin Babnik
Erin Babnik! The undisputed queen of photography. She is incredible! Her photography is simply stunning, you have to look at is. What I love about Erin, is she doesn’t play this social media game. Her photography, which she will release slowly does all of the talking. She isn’t a slave like most of us to the algorithms of Facebook and Instagram. When your landscape photography is that good, that you don’t need to post it on social media, and you’re still regarded as one of the most well know and respected photographers on the planet, you are doing something right. Erin is the photographer behind one of my favourite landscape images EVER. The image is called “Arrow Dynamic”, and it simply gave me goose bumps when I saw it. Like the first time you laid eyes on your first love! The image so well balanced, its insane. The way Erin controls colour is simply outstanding, and she also has the BEST personality. You can’t help just loving her and try and soak in EVERYTHING she says, just in case a tiny bit of her gold dust magically falls on you.
